Tongchuan TCHL-11 harmonic joint module

The smallest frame in the TCHL range: a Φ52 mm joint weighing 370 g that still speaks EtherCAT and still has a Φ8 mm bore through the axis. This is the frame for fingers, small wrists and light gimbal axes where a Φ99 module would be absurd.

When this is the right choice

  • Fingers, small wrists, camera gimbals. 5.3 N·m at 370 g is the right order of magnitude where a bigger module would dominate the linkage design.
  • Same protocol as the rest of the range. EtherCAT and CAN FD on a Φ52 frame means a finger axis can sit on the same bus as the elbow.
  • A bore you can actually use. Φ8 mm is enough for a small harness or a sensor lead — rare at this size.
  • Brake available. The -B05 variant adds a holding brake inside the same envelope for light vertical axes.

When it is the wrong choice

  • Any structural axis. 19 N·m start–stop will not survive a knee or an elbow of a real payload — step up to TCHL-17 or TCHL-20.
  • Force-controlled contact. There is no torque-sensor variant at this frame; the -TH2 option starts at TCHL-14.
  • Shock-loaded axes. Harmonic drive, small frame — a planetary unit takes impact better at the same size.

TCHL-11 FAQ

Three ratios on a 5 N·m joint — does it matter?

Yes, more than at the big frames. At this size the output speed is what you feel: 50:1 gives the fastest finger motion, 100:1 the most torque and the quietest hold. For a finger that has to close in under 0.3 s, 50:1 is usually the answer.

Can I get a torque sensor on TCHL-11?

No. The -TH2 and -B05-TH2 variants start at TCHL-14. If you need force feedback on a joint this small, the sensor has to be external or you move up a frame.

Is the brake worth 0.1 kg?

Only on a vertical axis that must not drop at power-off. On a finger it is usually dead weight.

How long does it take to ship?

Confirmed per order at quotation — it depends on ratio, brake option and what the factory has built. The quotation carries the date we are working to.
