When this is the right choice
- Brake from Φ52 up. A wrist roll that drops when the drive is disabled is a safety issue, not a convenience one — this is the smallest PHU frame that solves it.
- Dual encoder plus a force-control build. Position and contact sensing on the same part, so a wrist can be dragged by hand in teach mode.
- Only 70 mm long. Two of these plus a roll module still fit inside a forearm.
- 25 N·m instantaneous at 403 g — a 5× margin that absorbs the knock when a hand hits a fixture.
When it is the wrong choice
- The brake adds length. A braked build is longer than the 70 mm catalogue drawing; do not finalise the forearm envelope on the unbraked dimension.
- Still a light-duty frame. 8.9 N·m average load will not carry a 3 kg payload at the end of a long forearm — go to PHU17H-80 for that.
- 51:1 is a speed build, not a torque build. 3.5 N·m rated at 51:1 is 30% lower than the 101:1 variant, which catches people out when they switch for speed.

PHU11H-52 FAQ
Do I need the brake on a wrist roll?
If the axis can move under gravity when power is removed, yes — and on a wrist roll it usually can. The brake also removes the need for a holding current, which matters on a battery platform where a stalled joint is a constant drain.
Φ52 or Φ60 at the same torque?
Identical 5 N·m rated and 25 N·m instantaneous. The Φ60 costs 140 g more and gives you space to route cables and a longer axial envelope. Pick Φ60 when the harness has to pass the joint, Φ52 when mass and length dominate.
How long does it take to ship?
Confirmed per order at quotation. Brake or no brake is the biggest variable at this frame; the quotation states the date we are working to.
