When this is the right choice
- 34 N·m start–stop vs 23 N·m at 51:1. The 101:1 build is 48% stronger on acceleration, which is what an elbow actually does all day.
- Force control at Φ70. Enough signal for insertion and wiping tasks without an external sensor — the smallest frame where that build is genuinely useful.
- 812 g including the brake option. That is the whole elbow actuator, not a motor plus a reducer plus an encoder bracket.
- Shares the Φ70 mount with PHA14H, so a prototype can swap to the instrumented version without redrawing the arm.
When it is the wrong choice
- 167 g heavier than PHA14H at the same rated torque. You are buying the encoder pair, the brake and the force-control path — not more newton-metres.
- 51:1 costs 33% of rated torque. 6.6 N·m is a big drop; only choose 51:1 if the output speed is the constraint.
- Not a shoulder. 13.5 N·m average will not hold a forearm plus a 2 kg payload through a lever — that is PHU17H-80 or above.
- The brake build is longer than the drawing. Check the axial envelope before committing.

PHU14H-70 FAQ
Is this the right frame for an elbow?
For a 3–8 kg arm, yes — 34 N·m start–stop accelerates a 1.5 kg forearm and a 700 g hand comfortably, and 66 N·m instantaneous covers a caught payload. Above 8 kg total arm mass, step up.
Do I order the force-control build?
Only if the elbow has to feel contact or be moved by hand. The dual encoder alone gives you position and velocity; contact detection through motor current is coarser and drifts with temperature.
How long does it take to ship?
Confirmed per order at quotation. Brake and force-control configuration drive the date more than quantity at this frame.
