When this is the right choice
- 49 N·m average load in a 1.1 kg frame. That is what lets a shoulder hold a forearm plus payload statically and still have headroom to accelerate.
- Force control at the shoulder makes the arm hand-guidable and collision-detecting without a six-axis sensor at the wrist.
- Φ80 keeps the shoulder narrow. A humanoid upper arm looks wrong when the shoulder actuator is wider than the upper arm itself.
- Two ratios, one mount — 51:1 for a fast, light arm, 101:1 for a strong one.
When it is the wrong choice
- 243 g heavier than PHA17H for the same rated torque. Mass-critical upper bodies should at least price the PHA alternative, which does not have a brake or force control.
- Not enough for hip pitch on a heavy torso. 49 N·m average is a shoulder figure; a 40 kg humanoid hip wants RHU32H-120.
- 51:1 drops rated torque to 19.8 N·m. A common mistake is ordering 51:1 for speed and then finding the arm cannot hold its own forearm extended.

PHU17H-80 FAQ
Should a shoulder use PHU17H or PHU20H?
PHU17H for arms up to about 8–10 kg total mass with payloads under 3 kg. Above that, PHU20H-90 gives 50 N·m rated and 182 N·m instantaneous for 439 g more.
Can the brake hold a shoulder statically?
Yes, and on a shoulder it is close to mandatory: without one, disabling the drive drops the arm. The brake holds position, it does not stop a moving load — that is the joint torque limit.
How long does it take to ship?
Confirmed per order at quotation. Brake, force-control build and connector type are the variables; the quotation states the ship date.
