When this is the right choice
- 16 driven joints. Every finger joint has its own actuator, so a grasp can be shaped rather than approximate.
- Self-locking hold. The hand keeps its grip with power removed, which makes it usable on a cell that loses air or power.
- 36 kg peak at 888 g. The best load-to-mass figure in the range after the O6.
- CAN FD and a 0.88 s full close — fast enough to keep up with a pick cycle.
When it is the wrong choice
- Force-sensed contact at the fingertip. 6.5 N at the thumb is a rated force, not a tactile array.
- In-hand re-orientation. A screw reduction moves deliberately; fast in-hand rotation is L20 or L30 Pro work.
- Mass at the flange. 888 g is 160 g more than an O6 and 150 g more than an O30.
Alternatives at a similar level
- Linker Hand O30 — 20 active DOF, 730 g, 30 kg, tactile sensing options
- Linker Hand O6 — 6+5 DOF, 360 g, 50 kg grip, the low-cost work hand
- Linker Hand L6 — 6+5 DOF, 607 g, 28 kg, 201°/s fingers, cycle-tested
- Linker Hand L20 — 16+5 DOF, 1.2 kg, 100 N grip for enveloping grasps

Linker Hand O20 FAQ
O20 or O30?
O20 for holding: 36 kg peak, self-locking, 16 driven joints at 888 g. O30 for sensing and range of motion: 20 DOF, 730 g, tactile options across the hand.
What does self-locking mean in practice?
The drive holds its position when power is removed, so a grasped part stays grasped through an E-stop. It is not a brake in the safety sense, so the holding capacity still has to be checked against the part weight.
Does it share software with the other hands?
Yes. Same SDK, same ROS packages and the same URDF pipeline as the rest of the range; only the joint count and the control interface differ.
How long does it take to ship?
Confirmed per order at quotation — hands are configured, so the date depends on the option set and the quantity.
