When this is the right choice
- 15 kg payload at 950 mm. Five times the 3 kg arms — enough to handle the object rather than only point at it.
- RBV3 modules from R83 to R120 are the same parts we sell individually, so a spare axis is a catalogue item, not a proprietary assembly.
- EtherCAT plus torque sensing on seven axes — the control architecture a heavy arm actually needs.
- Power-off brakes as standard — mandatory at this mass, and the reason this arm can be deployed rather than only demonstrated.
When it is the wrong choice
- 20 kg per arm. A bimanual pair is 40 kg of arm before the torso, the waist actuator and the battery — a mobile platform at this payload is a different project.
- Cost. Three R83 to R120 modules plus sensors and brakes per arm; this is the most expensive product line we list.
- 950 mm still is not a long-reach arm. Floor-level work needs a lift column or a torso DOF, not more arm.

Crabnova HRV1 15 kg force-control FAQ
Can I buy just the joints and build the arm myself?
Yes — that is most of what we do. R83, R102 and R120 are sold as modules with drawings and CAN documentation; the HRV1 is the assembled option for teams that would rather not design the links and the harness.
Why 20 kg for a 15 kg payload?
Harmonic joints, brakes and torque sensors on seven axes, plus a structure stiff enough not to deflect at 950 mm. A lighter arm at this payload would trade stiffness, and stiffness is what makes force control usable.
How long does it take to ship?
Assembled to order from RBV3 modules. The quotation carries the date for the configuration, and the modules themselves have their own lead times that we confirm at the same time.
