Tongchuan TCHL-25 harmonic joint module

The middle of Tongchuan’s six-frame harmonic range and the frame most humanoid teams land on for the elbow, hip pitch and heavy wrist axes. 83 N·m continuous at 2000 rpm input, 351 N·m absolute peak output, and a Φ15 mm through-bore wide enough to route a harness past the joint instead of around it.

When this is the right choice

  • Elbow and hip pitch on a mid-size humanoid — 83 N·m continuous covers a 30–50 kg platform with a normal safety factor.
  • Cabling through the joint. The Φ15 mm bore lets a harness or a sensor lead pass through the axis, which changes how you route the arm.
  • One protocol, one voltage. 48 V and EtherCAT / CAN-FD match the rest of the TCHL range, so a mixed build shares one bus and one power stage.
  • Vertical axes that must not drop. Order the -B variant and the holding brake is inside the same envelope — no external brake to design around.

When it is the wrong choice

  • Knees and ankles that take impact. Harmonic flex splines do not enjoy shock loads — a planetary frame in the same torque class is the honest answer there.
  • Under ~50 N·m. TCHL-20 (49 N·m) and TCHL-17 (29 N·m) are lighter and cheaper for the same job.
  • Above ~169 N·m. That is TCHL-32 territory.

Alternatives at a similar level

  • TCHL-32 — One frame up — 169 N·m rated, 3.30 kg, Φ131 × 103.5 mm
  • EYOU PHU25H-110 — Same 84 N·m class, 2,354 g, with a documented force-control version
  • Ti5 RI80-110 — Same 84 N·m class in a lighter 2.06 kg package
  • Crabnova CE-RB-R83-101-DNN — Harmonic alternative at 53 N·m and 0.83 kg

TCHL-25 FAQ

How long does the TCHL-25 take to ship?

Confirmed per order at quotation — we do not publish a number because it moves with the ratio, the brake or sensor variant and what the factory has on the shelf that week. Tell us quantity and destination and the quotation carries the ship date we are working to — and we tell you the moment it moves.

Can I buy one or two units as a sample?

Yes. Sample quantities are normal for us, and samples are quoted on the same terms as production orders.

Which ratio should I start with?

101:1 is the default for arm and hip axes at this frame; 81:1 if you need output speed, 121:1 if you need torque and can accept the lower output speed. Tell us the axis, the load and the cycle and we will do the arithmetic with you.

Do you have the datasheet and a STEP file?

The datasheet is the one these figures come from and we will send it on request. CAD is available through the factory for qualified projects — ask and we will start that paperwork.
